Millie Abecassis (she/elle) is a writer of speculative fiction born and raised in France. She started to learn English at the age of five and immediately fell in love with that language. She discovered fantasy in middle-school and decided to pursue a high school degree (baccalauréat) in literature. She also used her free time to practice her writing skills.
After graduating from the Panthéon-Sorbonne University with degrees in law and philosophy and completing a master’s degree, she moved to the United States where she’s been living ever since.
Although she set aside writing for many years, she never forgot her love for writing and started to work on her first novel-length stories in 2020. She is not only influenced by her multiple readings in the genres of fantasy, science fiction, horror, and thriller, but also by the many video games she enjoys playing. She is an avid reader of Franco-Belgian comics, or bande dessinées, and enjoys reading non-fiction occasionally (journalistic “corporate drama” is her favorite).
In February 2024, Millie launched #SmallPitch, a small press-centered pitch event, and in October 2024, she co-launched the Small Spec Book Awards alongside L. N. Holmes to recognize and promote independent and small press authors writing exceptional speculative fiction.
She lives in San Jose, California, with her family and their two cats, Haiku and Maui.
Millie is represented by A.J. Van Belle at the Booker Albert Literary Agency, and is an active member of the SFWA and Codex Writers.
